Are Christians losing the opportunity to make Christ bigger then anything else the world can throw at Christmas?
I have been thinking about this topic for a while now and I still haven’t got a satisfactory answer.
Unfortunately the consumer world is outshining Christians when it comes to promoting Christmas. They started this Christmas carry on back in October. This was when in my local Shopping Centre I first laid eyes on the first Christmas item for sale. I was saddened to see how far away from Christ our world has come.
So it made me think. Much money do we have to spend to out do this Santa worship, family worshiping, present worshiping view on Christmas?
Is it impossibly or is there still hope?
In December the Sundays leading up to Christmas are known as the Advent Sundays. These Sundays are the count down until Christmas.
How are we using these Sundays not as counting down to Christmas but WAKING UP to Christmas and RETURNING to the true meaning the fact that…We need a Saviour and that Saviour was born on Christmas day.
I know we do "Big Events" around Christmas like Corals, Christmas services, Christmas plays etc; however how effective are these one off events in reaching people for Christ. Or are these events bringing the normal one off Church visitors to a “NICE” reminder of Christmas.
Let’s return to making Christmas the big deal it is and deserves to be in the lives of all people everywhere. Let’s not put our energy in one off events that come and go but in an on going life that shines bright in a world of darkness that WAKES people up to why we needed a saviour in Jesus.
What about you?
What excites you most about Christmas? (Your answer may surprise you)
